The Conversation to the Right of Me
A distracted mind need not be an unfocused one

I’m sat in a café.
It’s 12.38.
I’m drinking coffee and whiskey in turn.
I’m eavesdropping on the conversation to the right of me.
I should be focused. I have goals.
Focus.
I can’t.
I’m dragged back to the conversation to the right of me.
I’m latching onto any distraction that presents itself.
Passers-by,
The flies in the window,
The scent of coffee and alcohol.
I find myself redrawn into the conversation to the right of me.
I am on this table; my mind is on another.
I need to focus.
The future waits for no one.
As a matter of fact, it’s here right now.
It’s here again.
I’m losing precious moments sat in a daze.
But then there’s the conversation to the right of me.
Fluid, calm, engaging.
I lean into the distraction.
I am,
present.
